Left: me in front of the Commodore Hotel where we stayed on our honeymoon 25 years ago.
We are retracing our honeymoon from 25 years ago. First stop SFO.
The stories of the 2 pieces of art that stuck with me years after I first saw them are both Canadian stories of immigration, indegenity, and integration of old/new, bold/quiet, art/craft, and home/not-home. The first is by Sonja Kobrehel. I bought it after getting tenure. I saw it in Montreal months beforehand. The second I just got today from Neal and Aaron. It is by Mark Preston. I saw it years ago in Victoria with Jennie Steffens, then saw again, then could not stop thinking about it. Now these stories are both in my living room. Happy early birthday to me.
Maybe next book? I have so much data and plenty of uncertainty about whether it will tell a coherent story. The pandemic threw a wrench in the publishing path originally planned. We will see what happens next when I reframe it.
