This is a book I edited with an international team of scholars. The chapters are based on research presented at a conference at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In the volume, the chapters cover topics that range from Cold War impacts on childhood memories in Eastern Europe, to how folklore museums socially construct displays of collective memory for children. As Petya Bankova, the conference organizer, notes in her introductory words: “The conference also raised the question of the need for a new format for the collection and presentation of scientific achievements in the field of childhood research.” I was fortunate to be asked to edit the chapters and offer introductory remarks.
